About Squibjoy

Squibjoy is a small, editorial project reviewing free treasure and pirate games available on Google Play. It's written and maintained by one person — Callum Mercer, based in Melbourne, Australia — rather than a team or a company.

The catalog is deliberately small: two genre hubs, ten games, all free-to-play and all currently listed on Google Play at the time of writing. Keeping the list short means every review here is a real, complete playthrough rather than a skim of the store listing.

Each review plays through a proper session of the game itself, not just the tutorial: what the first half hour feels like, whether the pace holds up once the novelty wears off, how the controls handle on a phone screen, and how recently the developer has actually updated the build. That last point matters more than it might seem — a few games on this site haven't been touched in years, and the reviews say so plainly.

The editorial score out of 10 next to every review is a personal call, not an average of app-store ratings, and it sometimes disagrees with Google Play's own number quite a bit. No developer named on this site has paid for coverage, a higher score, or better placement in any list.
